I've never been a good long irons player, and this year's golf set the gap nicely between my 5-Iron and 3-Wood. Another high quality production is from the minds of taylormade. This club is simply great. Very workable, penetrating ball flight, anything a better player could want this hybrid has. I have the 16 degree 2 hybrid in the "TP" model. Beware, this hybrid does not have much forgiveness and requires a higher swing speed, if you don't have a high swing speed go with the non model. The adjustability is awesome too.

R11S is about Speed and Tuning

TaylorMade believes it has taken adjustable technology to the next level with the introduction in February of the all-white driver, a Tour Preferred (TP) version of which is currently in the hands of its staff players including Sergio Garcia.

Last season's R11 featured a 440-cc head, but the R11S hits the USGA's maximum legal size, 460cc. TaylorMade says the bigger head combined with better aerodynamics make the Taylormade R11S Driver a little longer than the R11, and it has a slightly-larger sweet spot. The club should also do a better job of helping golfers maintain ball speed on mishits.

While last season's R11 had a red adjustable plate on the sole that allowed golfers to choose from three face angles, the Taylormade R11S Driver has five settings: Neutral, Open, Closed, Slightly Open (Open+), and Slightly (Closed+).

The adjustable sleeve that connects the shaft to the head can be set in a Neutral, Higher or Lower setting. The Higher setting adds 1.5° of loft (transforming a 9° driver into a 10.5° driver) while the Lower setting decreases loft by 1.5°.

"In many cases a golfer may not be able to see that much of a difference with the smaller sleeve [used on the R11], but the larger sleeve is going to give them the ability to dial in that launch condition to be exact without changing the spin rate," says Tom Olsavsky, TaylorMade's senior director of product creation.
I was very impressed with the Taylormade R11S Driver and hit it well.  What's great was that I was able to take the shaft in my current R11 (Graphite Design ADI 6) and put it into the Taylormade R11S Driver when I played yesterday.  I was really able to compare both heads, using the shaft I've been fitted for.

What's also cool is that two completely opposite golfers can play the same head.   Let's say a 9*, my specs might be 9* at 3* open and another golfer could tune the driver to be12* at 3* closed, same club head!

The R11S Driver will be available in early February

  This Wednesday I was able to attend a TaylorMade media day event yesterday at the La Costa Resort.  Want to thank all the great TMAG staffers (Christa, Michael, Dave and Mike) for having me and sharing this exciting line of prodcuts.  I was even able to play a round with Tom Kroll, the global product lines manager for woods.

  “The R11S is a golfer’s dream come true; it’s the realisation of every ounce of innovation, adjustability, and performance we could package in a bigger, more aerodynamic, white clubhead,” said Sean Toulon, TaylorMade's Executive Vice President.

  Similar to its predecessor, the R11, the new R11S features a contrasting black face which golfers claim improves their alignment and accuracy off the tee and confidence at address - the clubhead appearing large compared to the ball. It's triangular shape also helps provide a higher launch, more forgiving trajectory.
  ASP technology - a raised five-point plate which can be rotated and secured - allows the golfer to adjust face angle independent of loft setting which means the face angle can be adjusted independently to the loft and vice versa - neutral, slightly open, open, slightly closed and closed.
  In addition the combination of Flight Control Technology and moveable weights enables the golfer to adjust the loft and face angles for up to approximately 60 yards side-to-side trajectory as well as the swing weight.
  There are also two weight ports in the R11S—one in the heel and one in the toe—which can hold the one- and the 10-gram weights that come with the driver.    Positioning the 10-gram weight in the heel encourages a draw while screwing it into the toe should help you hit a fade.

  There are 80 different ways you can set up the R11S, and according to TaylorMade, the club offers 140 yards of left-and-right adjustability.

  "All in all, the package is going to give the golfer a little higher launch and less spin than the original R11, which should translate to more distance," says Olsavsky.

Rescue 11 Review

There’s no mistaking a taylormade golf product in 2011. White is the new black and it’s taken the golf world by snow storm. The cool thing is that they’ve nicely incorporated both black and with into the club. Ebony and ivory, white and black cookie, taylormade rescue 11? It all comes together! If you’ve never seen the new white crown yet you’re surely missing out on a visual treat. It’s not stark, glaring, etc. The rescue 11 actually calming at address and the black clubface provides a great alignment aid in of itself. Is the club head squared to the target line? Forget the alignment aid on the crown and the graphics on the back of the crown; use the clubface as your guide. For all intents and purposes you forget that the club is white after the first few shots or holes with it which is one less distraction you need before rigging a shot off with this club. The stock Aldila RIP shaft in the taylormade rescue 11is a nice addition to an already sleek but powerful offering and the look certainly blends well. The club has the look of a smaller fairway wood which gives you the comfort of hitting it off the tee, off the deck, or in the rough.

Taylormade has given the golfer options without making them feel that they will be overwhelmed and not end up using the features that come with the taylormade rescue 11. I think this is a nice bonus to a golfer who may not yet be ready to take on an adjustable driver or fairway wood. Crawl before you can walk right?
